Meet Michael

An entrepreneur, author, radio host and sought after public speaker, Michael S. Robinson is a true renaissance man.

After years of being a senior financial analyst on Wall Street, Robinson quit his post and founded New York Staffing Services, Inc. (NYSSI) in 1992 to fill a void in the financial staffing market. NYSSI soon grew to add other Fortune 100 companies to its list of clientele and opened branches in Tampa, FL and Bridgewater, NJ. Today, the company boasts a nationwide presence in over 16 states and maintains a workforce of over 320 employees.

Nearly a decade later, Robinson and his company were tested by the horrific events of September 11, 2001.  Companies were forced to stop hiring. However, Robinson emerged as proactive leader once again by partnering with various Twin Towers Job Placement efforts to carefully research candidates, find opportunities, provide referrals and offer career development forums for workers affected by the events of 9/11.

“We are committed to innovative, outside the box strategies and finding new ways of doing old things better,” says Robinson.

In 2006, Robinson launched his second company, Microbin, Inc., an internet based Workforce Capital Management firm with onsite capabilities at major corporations. Microbin Inc. streamlines the staffing process while saving clients time and money. In 2012, the company opened up a self-publishing division to assist authors in distributing their works.

Inc Magazine recognized Robinson’s achievement and designated New York Staffing Services, Inc. as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S. in 2003. Robinson has received many other awards, including but not limited to the Award for Outstanding Business Enterprise by the National Minority Business Council, Inc. in April 2009 and New York Enterprise Report’s Diverse Supplier of the Year Award in October 2010.

In 2013, his first book, One Hundred Pennies, shook Americans with a wakeup call by highlighting ineffective governmental approaches to small businesses, jobs and the economy and offering concrete solutions to fix them. He was soon picked up for a radio show by the same name on AM970 The Answer, where he tackles the issues surrounding the tenets of his book.

Currently, Robinson sits on the Board of the NMBC as Treasurer. He is also the Chair of the organization’s Green Sustainability Program and organizes forums to promote sustainability awareness among small businesses within the supply chain. Robinson also serves on the board at Bronx Community College

Robinson has been featured on the CBS Evening News, ABC’s Here and Now, News 1 New York and in Forbes Magazine.

He holds both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in finance from Brooklyn College.

An avid adventurer and athlete, he enjoys mountain climbing, aviation, astronomy, scuba diving and sailing. As a lecturer and an empowerment speaker, he gives workshops at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Robinson is a supporter of the arts, and lives in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
